Opensignal launch Global Mobile Network Experience Awards report

Frog portfolio company Opensignal – the global standard for measuring mobile-user experience in the wireless industry – recently launched the “Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2020,” one of their most comprehensive reports yet.

Through this, the company is recognising mobile network operators across the world. These operators must have stood out and excelled through providing outstanding mobile network experiences as well as improving connectivity for all. Additionally, the report also salutes operators who have shown the greatest improvement in mobile network experience between the first half of 2019 and the first half of 2020.

The report strengthens Opensignal’s foothold as a credible and leading voice in the world of mobile connectivity. The report is not only a commemoration of the company’s 10th anniversary, but it also analyses the mobile network experience across five key measures — Video Experience, Voice App Experience, Download Speed Experience, Upload Speed Experience and 4G Availability — for the very first time. Opensignal has also created a short video telling the company’s story.

Each of the five key measures were analysed through data provided by Opensignal’s users over the first 180 days of 2020. The results determined the Global Winner(s) using confidence intervals in the same way they do their country-level reports. Confidence intervals was also used to determine both Global Leaders and Global High Performers. The report also recognises the industry’s Global Rising Stars, the top 30 operators, where users have seen the greatest improvement in mobile network experience in the last year between the first half of 2019 and the first half of 2020.

According to the report, “the exact number of operators in these categories vary because in instances where one or more operators are statistically tied with the operators in the 10th or 30th positions, they have been included.”

Brendan Gill, CEO and Co-founder of Opensignal, says: “As the telecoms industry is in a continual state of change we have also analyzed the degree to which the world’s operators have improved their users’ mobile network experience over the last year. During this period operators around the world have been navigating many unforeseen challenges — not least an ever greater reliance on communications as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic — which makes the improvements we have measured even more impressive.”
